Entomagical

Entomagical Exhibition

Manchester Craft and Design Gallery

14th April - 26th August 2023

In celebration of MCDC's building’s 150th anniversary, ceramicist Anna Collette Hunt has created an exhibition of 150 ‘Entomagical’ insects. The pieces connect with the beautiful building’s Victorian past and Manchester’s worker bee mindset.

Manchester Craft and Design Centre’s building first opened its doors in 1873 and was part of the bustling Smithfield Markets. The markets were demolished in 1978 and the centre was converted into Manchester Craft Village in 1982. It's been home to a creative community of makers ever since. Entomology and natural history collections are the starting inspiration for Anna. She is drawn to the curation and order within these timeless collections.

Anna’s work seeks to tell stories and bring specimens to life. She sketches and models the insects, abstracting and reimagining them into a more mythical and magical form. For 'Entomagical', 150 unique specimens have been created and installed into a museum inspired installation. Each piece has been assigned and labelled with a year to coincide with the 150 years of the building.

All works are available to purchase directly from the craft centre in person or remotely. Please contact the venue to discuss purchases. Opening times and contact details can be found here. Download Price Guide
